DC, Maryland, and Virginia have no shortage of soccer talent. The DMV Cup proved it.
Earlier this fall, Plei partnered with District Soccer to help spread the word about the DMV Cup, an open tournament bringing together some of the best players in Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. And when the day came, the Plei community didn't just watch from the sidelines.
Plei FC Represents
For the first time, Plei put together an official team made up of real players from the DMV community. They came dripped out in their Plei kits, ready to compete and represent the Plei and pickup communities in the DMV. They built chemistry on pickup pitches across the region and showed up to compete for the badge.
The DMV Came Out
The tournament drew players from across the region, and the energy was exactly what you'd expect from a city that takes its soccer seriously. Competitive games, familiar faces, and new ones too. The kind of day that reminds you why you fell in love with the game in the first place.
What It Meant
Plei is built on pickup soccer, but the mission has always been bigger than the game itself. District Soccer puts it well: "...soccer is a powerful tool for building community, fostering connections, and giving back..." That's something we both believe in. So when the opportunity came to unite the pickup community, make a squad, and watch them compete together, it felt like a natural fit. We're proud to have partnered with the District Soccer team and can't wait to do it again!
If you were out there competing, thank you for representing. And if you missed it, keep your eyes open. There's more coming.
